Commonage Close ArchitectureAlpine Architectural StyleThe entry to Commonage Close villas is via a central landscaped street for vehicle and pedestrian access that also connects all the homes within the development. Arranged in clusters along the contours of the site, each home has magnificent lake and mountain views. Specifically designed separations between the buildings ensure excellent views and allow sun and light to filter through. Natural materials have been incorporated into the buildings, complementing the alpine architectural style. Cedar shingle roofs, copper spoutings and a variety of timber and stone claddings create a range of colours and textures adding character and diversity to the village. The weathering characteristics of these natural materials will add a richness and visual warmth tying the village to the landscape. Bordering on Bush Clad Reserve Nestled into a sloping site, Commonage Close borders a bush clad reserve. The key objective for Paddy Baxter, Queenstown's leading landscape architect, was to preserve the natural integrity of the area. The village land adjoining the reserve will be planted with native trees, shrubs and ground coverage, integrating with established bush vegetation on the reserve below. Kohuhu, cabbage tree, silver and mountain beech will be offset by assorted tussocks, toi toi and rainbow grass. Landscaped walls, built from local schist stone, incorporate selected hard woods to give an established and timeless presentation. The courtyard is low maintenance and ageless, rendered in exposed aggregate concrete with cobble and hardwood inlays. Warm in Summer, Cool in Winter Commonage Close has been designed for year-round living. With solid concrete floors and walls, and timber and plaster-clad exteriors, you'll be warm in winter and cool in summer. Using natural materials, large timbers, wide sloping roofs and overhanging eaves, the mature architectural design would sit comfortably in any European or North American alpine resort.
